An Award That Carries Many Names: Honored by UNDP and the Swiss Agency for Development

There is a strange moment just before you walk up to receive an award: you hear your name called, and you suddenly realize it is not your name alone. That is how it felt when I was honored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) as a Social Entrepreneur, in recognition of my efforts in community entrepreneurship. The name engraved on the trophy is an inadequate shorthand for many names: mentors who opened doors, partners who carried the dream with me, and communities that believed in the idea before they could see its fruit.

The Award, and What It Honors

The Social Entrepreneurship Summit Award is the first of its kind in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan — an initiative honoring individuals and institutions devoted to creating positive social impact through creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. At its core, it celebrates an idea both simple and revolutionary: that the goal is not to build companies that count well, but ventures that lift well — lifting communities and driving an impact that outlasts the stage lights.

A Journey Measured in People, Not Numbers

The recognition gave me a moment to look back. Social entrepreneurship is a road unlike other roads: it demands perseverance, vision, creativity under pressure — and hardest of all, an unshakable belief that change is possible. My compass has always pointed toward empowering individuals, nurturing communities, and building solutions that touch essential needs rather than their surfaces. What experts call theory of change and impact measurement, I have lived as faces and stories: a young man discovering his first skill, a mother launching her small business, a community recovering its faith in its own capacity to rise.

Creativity as an Engine of Change

At the heart of all this sits innovation. Building sustainable business models, deploying technology against social challenges, encouraging young people to lead initiatives rather than wait for them — all are expressions of one conviction: creativity is not the ornament of social work but its spine. That is the message this award entrenches for everyone laboring in this field.
